Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he loved gambling on different card games at a young age. He found himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he would play many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate more on the game.

The actual advancement in his abilities began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would often challenge each other. He was able to access several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard would hone his strategic thinking skills. He used these strategy ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. She is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
