Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
