In holdem, the first step is to get the game started, and for this the competitors put out a set amount of money. ‘Posting the blinds’ is the commonly used saying for this play. In the next step, the croupier shuffles the cards and gives out 2 cards face down to each player. A normal deck of fifty two cards is used in the deal. Then there is the initial round of betting. This sequence is often known as a "pre-flop".

After the 1st wagering round, the top card is thrown away. This thrown away card is known as the "burn card", and this is performed to ensure there is absolutely no corruption. The next 3 cards are then dealt face up on the table. These cards are ‘the flop’. Now follows a 2nd sequence of wagering, after that the dealer throws away a further card and turns over 1 more card onto the table. After this, participants can use the sixth card to form a five-card poker hand.

A further round of wagering happens, and in many types of games, here is where the bet size doubles. There is an additional round of tossing aside a card, and a last deal of a card face-up on the poker table. This is known as the "river". Players can now use any of the 5 cards on the poker table, or the 2 cards in their pocket, to assemble a five-card poker hand.

To finish it up there’s another round of betting. Then, all the players remaining begin to show their hands. This is describe as the "showdown". Clearly, the bettor who holds the greatest hand is the winner. When competitors have equal hands a sharing of the pot is used.

Texas Holdem is a basic game to pickup, but to achieve prowess it requires a lot of studying.
