Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
