Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
