No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
