Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
