No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?
Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved participating in various card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he would play extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus even more on poker.
The actual advancement in his skills began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would often challenge each other. Howard was able to access some of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.
He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in cash games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
