Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he enjoyed participating in different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these particular card games while playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he would play many hours and don’t win most times. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he might boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and concentrate more on poker.

The definite improvement in his game began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently wager against one another. He was able to access several of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

He also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
