Stu Ungar is considered by most to the very best NL Hold’em Poker player ever.

The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in 1953 and began betting poker before becomming a teenager.

The young gambler started out betting gin and at the age of ten had won his very first gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the time he turned 14 the little poker genius had turned professional and dropped out of school.

In 1954 Stu entered the history books by winning ten thousand dollars in a gin rummy tournament without losing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.

The quick talking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic greats like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a true talent for playing poker but despite his successes in Texas holdem poker, he favored wagering gin.

Stu once said that there may a few day be a improved NL Texas holdem player than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a much better gin player.

In 1980 Stu was put on the world map as one of the very best Hold’em Poker gamblers in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Extraordinarily it was the first time he had entered the tournament.

The subsequent year he dismissed any thoughts that it had been luck, by successfully defending his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

Except this poker master also fought with substance abuse and a year after winning his third title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to medical doctors, he had passed away from cardiac arrest which was caused by his lifestyle.

Stu had started out with absolutely nothing except his skill and expertise for the game which made this poker wonderful a millionaire numerous times over.
